How I work
I am a humanistic integrative counsellor which means that I believe that the relationship between the client and counsellor is of the utmost importance to help promote self-awareness and improve relationships.
I believe that an effective relationship is built on mutual trust, respect, and clear boundaries. I predominately use a person-centred approach which means you guide me. If it’s beneficial to your individual needs, I will tailor my therapeutic approach to integrate elements often associated with cognitive behavioural therapy.
I offer an approach which provides a confidential environment that is free of judgement and facilitates you to feel heard, accepted and valued.
Together we will explore your thought and feelings helping to gain a greater understanding of yourself and promote personal and professional growth.
I offer a therapeutic environment where you can explore your individuality, difference, and diversity in a safe, non-judgmental space. In addition, I offer an exploration of a variety of issues such as depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bereavement, long-term illness, relationship issues, low self-esteem, self-harm, bullying, exam and work stress and panic attacks to name but a few.
The relationship is of the utmost importance to establish mutual trust and respect, I offer an initial assessment session where we can find out about each one another and if you feel that I am the right counsellor for you.
I have a wealth of knowledge and experience working with children, adolescents and young adults in a variety of settings. These include as a youth worker, primary and secondary school support officer, play therapist and counsellor within an educational setting.
I recognise for children and young people to feel safe to explore their worries, feelings or thoughts it’s important to provide a safe and confidential space which is free of judgement.
I aim to offer an environment that promotes trust and respect and in turn helps the young person develop their self-esteem, resilience and self-worth.
It’s important for me that young person feels valued, heard and accepted which in turn helps them freely express their troubles and concerns. On occasions when they can’t put into words how they are feeling, we can work together creatively to help ease levels of stress associated with anxiety.
I use a psychoeducation approach when working with young people which helps promote confidence and empowers healthy decision-making in their lives. This approach helps identify the young person’s core beliefs, challenge their automatic thoughts, and develop alternative ways of thinking. Together we will practise some grounding techniques which the young person can utilise when experiencing symptoms of panic attacks or anxious feelings, common themes for many young people.
I have a wealth of experience working with neurodivergent young people and can offer support for a range of difficulties they face. These include low self-esteem, anxiety, anger, self-harm, bullying, friendship and relationship issues.
If you feel I can offer support and help, please don’t hesitate to contact me to see whether you would like me to work with your young person.
